Welcome from the CEO

JANE SPENCE

CEO

I am proud and privileged to be the CEO of Galileo Multi Academy Trust, a family of ten primary schools all in Redcar and Cleveland, each with its own distinctive ethos and character, all with children at the heart of everything they do. We have a mix of Church of England and non-faith based community schools and as a Trust we believe it is important to maintain the distinctiveness of each school. We are, however, a single organisation working collaboratively to ensure every child develops a love of learning, has high ambitions, and achieves their goals.

Our schools provide excellent rates of progress and academic attainment across the board, offering a broad and balanced curriculum with high quality teaching, and wide-ranging support. Equally important to us is the development of the whole child, we want every child across the Trust to be happy, confident and responsible – ready for each stage of learning and every step in life.

The leaders, teachers and support staff, both in the classroom and out, work as one team to provide the best experience for our children. They are highly skilled, dedicated professionals working closely with the wider school community, making sure that we meet the needs of children and their families. We are there to support and encourage every Galileo child and their family from before they take their first steps across the Nursery door to beyond their first step into secondary school.

Our Trustees and School Governors are highly skilled and committed teams of volunteers providing support and challenge to me as the CEO and to each of our Headteachers. From diverse professional backgrounds they bring expertise and knowledge to the Trust helping us to live our common values: ambition, inclusion and integrity.

Having worked in education my whole career I absolutely believe it changes lives and has the potential to unlock inequality and promote social mobility. At Galileo we are committed to high aspiration and standards for everyone, staff and pupils, whatever background or personal circumstance.

There are many excellent quotes from great thinkers on education, I have chosen this one by Michelle Obama to share, as it is holistic and passionate, and reflects our determination to equip our children with the knowledge, skills and character to have happy and fulfilling lives.

“The ability to read, write, and analyse; the confidence to stand up and demand justice and equality; the qualifications and connections to get your foot in the door and take your seat at the table—all of that starts with education.” — Michelle Obama
