Pupils at a North Yorkshire village school have been cooking up creative ideas in a sausage design competition.
Children at St Peter’s CE Primary School in Brotton, near Saltburn, took part in the contest as part of their Great British Sausage Week 2025 celebrations, crafting imaginative flavours and names for their own unique sausages.
The winning entry will be selected by a panel of judges and brought to life by Goodswen Butchers in Redcar, who will produce and sell the sausage to the public.
Mr Woodhouse, associate headteacher at St Peter’s CE Primary School, said: “It is so important to celebrate our British traditions.
“The children have thoroughly enjoyed designing some new flavours; there really are some bangers.
“We are very grateful to Goodswen Butchers for supporting us — it is really important for us all to support our local shops too.”
The competition offered pupils a taste of real-world food design and emphasised the value of supporting nearby businesses.
As part of their learning, children have also discovered fascinating facts about sausages and their timeless popularity.
Excitement is building across the school as pupils wait to find out who will be named Sausage Champion 2025.
The competition has been a sizzling success, inspiring creativity, community spirit, and plenty of smiles along the way.
UK Sausage Week 2025 will run from Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November.
